The Story Of Bidibidi Refugee Camp

Imagine life being normal, waking up, talking to friends and family , living in a community where your surrounded by everyone you love and then suddenly chaos  occurs, and the only place you know as home becomes a war zone. Your schools are bombed, your churches become military bases, your friends and family being obliterated 1 by 1. Now Your forced to leave the only place you know as home because it is no longer a safe haven, with none of your belongings, no goodbyes, unsure of if you’ll ever see anyone you know, and possibly be separated from your family. Well This is only the first phase, the second is the journey to a safety, a place that you are unsure that you will ever find. In these moments all you know is run fast, and stay quiet. You have escaped with some family and possibly some strangers and you are now struggling to avoid being murdered, raped, encaptivated, and tortured. This journey you travel for miles with this fear in your heart and only the thought of survival for you and those who have escaped with you. Some may survive and some may not . The only thing you can do in this situation is pray.

Unfortunately that is the fate of some 10.9 million refugees around the world. 270,000 in a community called Bidibidi, in Uganda just southwest of Sudan. It is the #2 largest refugee camp in the world, most of these refugees being women and children, escapees from Sudans prolonged political conflicts, climate change, Communal violence, and civil war. Bidibidi has become a place to call home for people who have suffered hardships that I can only imagine. They have found a sense of peace and safety. They have survived a journey that Most people around the world only see on television. Now that they have a sense of peace, they face yet another struggle and that is rebuilding a new normal way of life for themselves in this New community! Their population numbers have increased to that of a small city, but they have limited funding. As a result in 2017 in the first 6 months of arrival 180  refugees died from common infectious diseases due to lack of medical resources.

Along with limited medical resources there is also limited Education resources. Bididbidi has 19 schools, with a population of 290,000 refugees (and counting). There are very few opportunities for secondary school, much less vocational training for adult.  Bididbidi schools have a 1-262, teacher to student ratio. The average ratio for a classroom is 1-30. This makes  it very difficult for teachers giving the amount of education that is needed for the citizens to become workers in their community. Not  to mention Ugandans considerably  hot climate , which makes  This an  uncomfortable environment and quite difficult for children and adults to learn. We are asking for your Contributions to build a new school! One  where children can feel safe and also receive more magnified education. We want to be able to fundamentally provide the basic skill these citizens need to strive in this growing community. The citizens already have The will and the strength to be successful , but education is key in every part of the world , and with building this new school We can give them just that! Your contributions will help us give these citizens one more Tool they can use, to overcome their trials and be able to go on and lead a happier, more meaningful Lives.
